Fairies...in fieri

This is for a personal project, which will take likely years to be completed, but I am not in a hurry...

So far I am working on two fairies. I have a clear idea of where I am going with this but somehow I am stuck with the anatomy of these two little ladies, fighting with myself over hands, arms, and poses in general. I have taken pictures of myself as reference, yet I am still in trouble! The initial sketch is taking me forever....Yesterday night I actually spent one hour just deciding the angle of an arm and a hand (and it's not just a matter of deciding, but of actually getting my pencil to do what my brain clumsily tries to communicate to my fingers!).

Hopefully tonight things will go better...:)

  1. Oh, I so understand attempting to get the pencil to express the idea! lots of erasing in my art. From what i can see this looks enchanting!

    1. Thank you! I finally settled down for a pose but it took enough tinkering that I for a while I thought I would ruin the paper...

  2. Well it's definitely look beautiful so far! Can't wait to see your final sketch! I do the same thing, take photos for reference except I usually use my husband. He's stood in for witches and children and anything else with a body part :)

    1. Ah, that's good! I use my husband as a photographer, unless I am doing male characters (in which case we switch roles, but that does not happen often). In this case, despite the reference, the hands especially gave me all sort of problems, also because I decided to change the pose just slightly at the last minute and I did not bother to take another set of reference pictures (my bad!). I am almost done with the pencils...I'll show them soon, :)

  3. It is not so easy! Even all is art and painting but some how some parts need to be as the artist wants. Then You must work, I can't help, because I have same problems all the time. Keep going :-D
